Stylistic Influences and Font Styles for Ancillary Tasks

 The original video for Katy Perry - California Gurls, is extremely colourful and 'pretty' in a sense. The directors and creative artists got so creative with the music video that it will be hard for us to relate to in our music video. As we have our main actress, we are going to need stylist influences from the original music video so that it all links in. 

This is a screen shot from the original video and as you can see there is minimal clothing worn, with tops that enhance the view of that area. This will be seen as quite provocative, and links to the theory of Male Gaze and how men look at women in music videos. However, if we use a dance seen, we will be hoping to use bright and glittery clothing for all the dancers to ensure that they stand out and link in with the 'pop' genre. 

This is the single cover for California Gurls, and again is brightly coloured to show continuity throughout the video and the single cover. Bright clothing is used here again to draw the attention to the artist. Also, I have analysed the font on the single cover and noticed that it is in a 'fun' and informal font to show that this song is going to be fun and outgoing. The blue wig that Katy is wearing encourages the more 'cartoon' look that Katy is trying to get across. It also shows that she isn't ready to grow up yet, and still wants to create fun songs that will entertain the audience, instead of songs that could be about her life e.g. upsetting and slow songs. 

As we obviously cannot copy the style of Katy Perry's outfits on her single California Gurls, I thought that 'The Dolly Rockers' (a British girl band), have a great style that would relate to the style of the video. They were 'quirky' outfits that grab the attention of the audience, and show off their personalities perfectly. Even though their style is not necessarily bright and colourful, the band are very similar to Katy Perry and their style would look great on the dancers within the video. Also, the outfits that are shown on The Dolly Rockers, are more likely to be accessible and more likely the girls will have outfits like these, compared to Katy Perry's outfits that were hand made and took a lot of time to make.
